Heroic, yes, but still so depressing to see the mass insanity on full display. She makes many good points, but she should have mentioned that they should feel safe in their masks if they really believe they work. I am more disgusting with my fellow human beings every single day. I don’t think I could keep my cool in that situation.
Is it really private property if the dictators can require staff and customers to wear masks AND force them to provide unpaid enforcement services for their diktats?
Is she? We don’t know if it’s the official policy. They can have her arrested if they think that a property right is being violated. The other day in Walmart a lady there told me that masks were store policy and I simply said, no they aren’t, I have a copy of the policy, and she left me alone. So this person may be in the same situation.
The best part is that when this is all over (and it will be all over someday) all of these same sheep will talk like "yeah, people were so DUMB back then" without any irony.
By the store employee's logic, everyone without symptoms would have to wear a mask forever, as we could never be sure that they're not spewing deadly pathogens. Moreover, if the mask works, then why does this woman need to wear one if everyone else is wearing one?
It's pretty clear that if someone accepted the mass hysteria from the government and media early on, then they're never going to be reasoned out of their thinking, as that would be too personally embarrassing.
It’s exhausting having to constantly argue the same points with these types of people. From comparing mask mandates with seatbelt laws (a stupid comparison—besides nobody who values freedom should support seatbelt mandates for adults anyway), comparing them to “no shoes, no shirt, no service” rules enforced by many private businesses, to the most egregious argument: “You wear your mask to protect others.”
These arguments in support of mask mandates are so absurd, that it’s frustrating to have to constantly refute them, usually to no avail. People actually believe that somehow a virus can find its way into and through a mask from the outside, but can’t penetrate outside of a mask from the inside (from a potentially infected person who is wearing one).
The smarter ones argue that it’s not about that, it’s just that two people wearing a mask (one infected, one not) reduces the risk of transmission even more than if only the non-infected person only wears a mask. If that’s the case, then they should just wear multiple mask layers (they can wear 10 masks for all I care) and leave everyone else alone. But, no, that’s not good enough for them.
The whole “you wear yours to protect me, I wear mine to protect you” BS, coupled with “asymptomatic” carrier BS are merely schemes to turn what should be individual choices and risk assessments into collectivist propaganda, in order to force compliance. The state apparently doesn’t even need armed enforcers to do this—the citizen Stasi are more than happy to act as agents for them.
There have been times when I’ve debated issues with people, and felt like they were smarter or had better prepared their arguments. These people (pro-mask, pro-lockdown) literally have no good arguments and they are all easily refutable.
If you don't wear a mask and are confronted by these doomsayers, just pull-out one of the many extra masks you carry in your pocket, and offer it to that person, saying "if my not wearing one makes you uncomfortable, here's an extra one for you to wear."
"How do you know you're healthy (other than you feel great)---?" That illustrates the insanity pretty well.
I was with a few paranoid relatives the other day, exhorting me to "take this more seriously." The most common rebuttal I kept getting was "well, they just don't know much about this virus." ...as in "Yes, it appears asymptomatic people don't spread it, BUT THEY JUST DON'T KNOW" and "Yes, viruses mutate dozens of times in a year, but with this coronavirus THEY JUST DON'T KNOW." I told them we should all just commit suicide, because with regard to the question of whether the coronavirus will "cause you to grow tail, or make your eyeballs explode...THEY JUST DON'T KNOW!"
We're becoming superstitious cavemen, ruled by our fear of the unknown ("Anything might be possible---we just don't know!"), instead of being guided by knowledge and science.
My contempt for the store's (assumed) policy and its employees' responses is not coming from my libertarianism: The store has the right to set its own rules for what goes on on its property, and the customer would either have to conform or be thrown out. Obviously if the store were being forced to do so by the state, then my libertarianism would have something to say.
But, contrary to popular belief, libertarians are also regular members of society, so we can criticize decisions made by private businesses. I personally don't frequent places that require masks. Now, for all I know, the store owner doesn't believe that masks are effective either, but thinks that this is a winning policy with the majority of customers.
I simply applaud this customer's spine and logic, even if she would be deemed a trespasser if she didn't leave as requested.
It would be a fun survey to conduct, asking businesses whether they would require, recommend, or ignore health mandates for covid if no state bullies were fining and harassing them.
There is no such thing right now as a business making a private property decision. If they don't require covid compliance, they get threatened with fines and loss of li cense. I am going through this right now with my daughter's private, for-profit kindergarten.

I agree with everything this woman is saying, Now how do we reconcile her refusal to comply with store policy and property rights?

ReplyDeleteBut how do we know you are not a witch?
ReplyDeleteAsymptomatic spread is the modern day Salem witch hunt.
