Trump's National Guard Troops on the Southern Border

The remarkably obtuse President Trump has taken another two steps backward by sending national guard troops to the Southern border to prevent mostly Catholic, mostly hard-working, undocumented immigrants from entering the United States. It is clear none of these immigrants would be taking the jobs of Americans. That's the lump of labor fallacy.

To stop them at the border when they are seeking work is to simply decrease the potential standard of living for us all.

If they seek welfare that is a different story. Trump should build a welfare wall but there is not a word about this from the stable genius.

Instead, Trump is making a bad enforcement action worse by sending the national guard to enforce this sad immigration blockade, it is a further step in the direction of the militarization of the United States.

Government should be shrunk not grown. The military should be used less not more.

Trump is the exact opposite of a libertarian. He should be attacked and attacked by libertarians every time he takes steps like these that expand the use of the state.

  1. I was just discussing this with a friend. He’s no Libertarian. But he does claim to be a stout American who claims to understand the founding generation of the newly independent States.
He couldn’t understand my objections to sending the military to the border.
I told him it boggles my mind that he couldn’t understand the slippery slope of deploying the military on American soil. Had he not read anything about such things by the founding fathers? The ones who feared even a standing army.
In St. George Tucker’s commentary on the Constitution, on his comments on the Bill of Rights, he comments on the 3rd bill as hardly needed, as we all know having a standing army is an affront to Liberty inbthe first place (paraphrased).
I am one who understands the faults of many of the founders, but it does blow me away how many Americans, who claim to be “constitutionalist”, “Patriots”, and blab about so called “founding principles “, even many who comment on this website, are completely ignorant to the cautions and warnings many of those men tried to explain to us 250 years ago. Oblivious.
From Washington telling us to stay out of all foreign entanglements, Jefferson explaining the equality of man, Locke explaining unjust government, Madison commenting that if we are to ever lose our freedoms, it would be under the guise of a foreign enemy, Adams if we lose our Liberty, it could never be regained..
Another slow fade to totalitarianism, while we huzzah Murica.

    1. But hey, everyone those turd world immigrants coming in to the USA would understand what you are talking about right? I don't disagree with your concerns, but you might also recall that most of the founders were descendants of English/Anglo/Saxon law and culture. Does a Afghan goat humper, mestizo, low IQ Somali or Congolese, an Asian, or even white Europeans understand any of these things?

For the open borders libertardians, here is another 'equal' culture:

This culture has been dead for decades if not centuries, with the history so screwed up, and homogenized. Who even fffing knows what the real "culture" is or is supposed to be?

Sending a few thousand National Guardsman to sweat their balls off, in the deserts of the Southwest, is hardly going to save this tortured

    5. Well said. As others have said, the totalitarian genie was out of the bottle long ago and probably can't be checked, but hey---we should still at least attempt to walk the walk and otherwise go beyond just talking the talk, when it comes to fidelity to the Constitution, classical liberalism, rule of law, etc. etc.
And too, there's always the logic of economics that points us in the direction of allowing labor capital to cross borders and lower the bottom line of companies and businesses that hire them.

  2. In time of actual war, great discretionary powers are constantly given to the Executive Magistrate. Constant apprehension of War, has the same tendency to render the head too large for the body. A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence agst. foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people. ~ James Madison,

  3. Yes RW, it is so horrible that Trump is taking steps to defend the border. This one of the few things the feds are authorized to do. Most of them looked a bunch of sketchy riff raff trying to make a political statement. If they are so precious, why did Mexico deport a few hundred of them?

We have our own worthless population. Why are they not helping raise the standard of living for all? Doesn't Commiefornia have over a 100,000 homeless people?

    1. If one believes that the state has a legitimate military role in "defending the border," isn't that role to prevent a hostile force from seizing control of the country? In what sense is this caravan likely to seize control of the country?

In any event, we already have a hostile force controlling the country, namely, the federal government. This hostile force has been permitted to exist and grow by the "traditional" American population.

    2. Yes, the feds are too big. You can probably go back to the Irish and others who think government should do everything for them.

Uncontrolled immigration is invasion. And no one has answered that if these people are so precious, why won't Mexico keep them to raise their standard of living? And funny these precious people won't go to some African country or Haiti maybe or Cuba.

    3. Just for fun, I wonder if you have ever heard of MEChA? Their unstated goals are to retake the lands considered Atzlan. Look at the demographics in the southern states. Here is California for an example:
      https://www.indexmundi.com/facts/united-states/quick-facts/california/hispanic-or-latino-population-percentage#map

Now, what happens if/when these people decide they want to 'self-determine' their own government and break away from the US/California and/or rejoin Mexico? Because that is what is coming.
Immigration can be great. But if they are choosing to come here only to remake their community into the shitholes that they left, where is the benefit?
I love the claim that they do jobs that Americans would not do. It is the dumbest argument ever and yet it is still used. Americans used to pick fruit. Fact. Why don't they anymore? Because of cheap labor, stupid. I'm sure the government sponsered Bracero program had nothing to do with pushing Americans out of an industry to invite only those escaping shitholes who are willing to work cheap. (Like the Chinese and the railroads).
It is crazy. They complain about Russification of Ukraine or other areas but never of Mexification of the Southern US.

Another note, remember when Ron Paul said something like - "We care more about the borders between Iraq and Afghanistan than we do our own borders. Bring the troops home and secure our borders"
He did not mean literally, did he?
I wish Libertarians could inject some realpolitik logic into their assessments of the world.

"mostly Catholic, mostly hard-working undocumented immigrants from entering the united States"
How could you possibly know that? You can't. More likely is that these are people who were willing to take money from some clandestine organization to stage an event in order to make Trump look dumb. But I'm sure rich people never use useful idiots to accomplish their goals... Cmon man. Step it up, RW.

TLM, when you say "And no one has answered that if these people are so precious, why won't Mexico keep them to raise their standard of living?" you're conflating the Mexican government with Mexican citizens. The Mexican government likely has its own agenda, which may be very different from that of individual Mexican citizens, some of whom may want to employ or rent to these immigrants. Same as in the US.

It's a reasonable inference. A little logic goes a long way. At least 90% of Latin Americans arw Catholic. Uprooting yourself, putting all your resources into a difficult task and risking yiur very life to migrate to the US is not something lazy people would do.

Ergo, most people from Latin American countries are a) Catholic and b) hard working. You merely prefer to think otherwise to fit your narrative that immigrants come only for the welfare.

And of course it is more profitable to do something else... That is the whole point of the post. Americans were undercut in an industry and had to find work elsewhere that was more profitable than the undercut wages they would have received picking fruit. I mean really, is it that difficult? There a plenty of capable people in the US who might pick fruit if there weren't droves of people undercutting the wages. But you're right, they did find something to do today that is more profitable... Welfare. Now our low skilled labor sits around at home popping out more kids and never getting married all the while collecting their plethora of benefits.
Fruit is just one example. Have you ever heard of Demolition? You know, a job Americans used to do all the time that now has mostly been replaced by illegals. I could go on and on and on. We already have low skilled labor in this country right now. Not everybody can write code and design buildings...

  6. This is a tough issue for libertarians but I think our government, especially under Obama, was inviting and giving incentives to illegals to come to the US to balkanize the country, then give them voting rights. This is to insure the democrats are always in power. It worked for them in California. I am sorry but we have to fight this. I think building the wall and bringing in the national guard changes the incentive and makes someone from Honduros question if they should make the trek or not. Under Obama it was government sponsored invitations. Under Trump it has changed. I think of it like I think of policy changes at the EPA. I would prefer there was no EPA but am glad when the EPA policies change for the better.

  8. The idea that you can "control" the border, and also the free association choices of supposedly free Americans, while advocating robbing those self-same free Americans on the pretext of giving social welfare to all and sundry against the personal judgments of many who earned the wealth, is as irrational and ludicrous as the idea that there is an authority to dictate what goes into the bodies of free individuals or that it is economically sane and feasible to control demanded recreational chemicals, which do not cross the border of their own volition.

The call for "border control" is a libertarian cop-out by people who believe that there is no convincing enough people to reject the welfare state. What they absolutely fail to understand, perhaps in many cases, willfully so, is that if there is no restriction of the welfare state, if social welfare depredation cannot be stopped or reduced then investment in "border security" more properly, un-free, or controlled or restricted association, is an even greater fantasy and fraught with even more unintended consequences.

The US population suffered massive losses of liberty under Lincoln, Wilson, FDR and LBJ, just to name a few august rulers, and I think it would be a stretch to say that these events were due to Latin American immigration. The US citizenry (of western European extraction) has long abandoned liberty, opting instead for a welfare and security state.

Probably not. He's living the boomer life where he benefits from the few benefits of unchecked third world immigration (cheap labor), while being sufficiently insulated from its consequences (rampant crime). Once MS-13 moves into his neighborhood, he'll probably take his social security checks and retire to a white expat community in Costa Rica and watch the USA burn from a distance. This is much easier to accomplish when you don't have a genetic legacy to protect.
