This is a strange one.
The New Yorker has suspended reporter Jeffrey Toobin. Sources tell VICE it’s because he exposed himself during a Zoom call last week between members of the New Yorker and WNYC radio.
Toobin said in a statement to Motherboard: “I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers.”
“I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video,” he added.
New Yorker spokesperson Natalie Raabe said: “Jeffrey Toobin has been suspended while we investigate the matter.”
Toobin is also CNN's chief legal analyst.

Staff writers at The New Yorker and employees from WNYC, which jointly produce the magazine’s podcast, were on a joint video call prepping for election night coverage, according to Vice, which first reported the episode. During a pause in the call for breakout discussions, Mr. Toobin switched to a second call that was the video-call equivalent of phone sex, according to the two people familiar with the call, who spoke on the condition of anonymity...All the while, participants continued as if nothing were wrong, one person on the call said. When Mr. Toobin rejoined, he was unaware of what had just happened, this person said.
Hahahahaah he thought the mute button worked for the video too. OMG how technologically illiterate is our ruling class?

ReplyDeleteA good thing too I would think. Not only that, but just how sick in the head are they? We don’t know exactly what he did but I’m sure he wasn’t just changing his clothes. Why are so many in the ruling class sickos? Or is a prerequisite for getting to the top?
I was on a zoom class where a guy turned off his video and proceeded to cuss his wife out. Sound was still on.
ReplyDeleteI am continually amazed at how so many of the elite, with all their money, can be so ignorant. In today's connected world, everything you say and do and write is captured/stored and can, potentially, be used against you. Every text, email, tweet, social media post, phone conversation, cellphone pic, location data with time stamp...all of it! Your smartphone, your car, your smart tv and other smart home appliances are continuously broadcasting data and metadata about you - don't they realize this?
