As I have pointed out numerous times here at Target Liberty, the COVID-19 testing results that to date are being publicly provided are useless as far as determining how prevalent the virus has been in the general population.
A general population survey would be key information that would be go a long way toward determining how severe COVID-19 is and if we are seeing only the most severe cases by current testing methods.
It turns out that roughly along the lines of a general survey is being conducted at the University of California, San Francisco by Michael Busch, director of the Vitalant Research Institute, a nonprofit that’s linked to 170 blood donation centers in the country and is world-renowned for its infectious disease studies.
He is testing blood samples for COVID-19 antibodies from donated blood in Seattle, New York City, the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, Boston, and Minneapolis.
When will the results be available?
Well some of them already are available and others will be available in a few days but the results are not being made public.
Busch explains:
I can’t disclose the data, but we’ve got results for Seattle for March, and we’ll have results next week for New York City for the last week of March...
At this point, it’s theoretical, and the Food and Drug Administration is recommending against screening either blood or tissue donors with laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The FDA is very concerned that there’s not an overreaction to the blood safety risk. And I agree with them.In other words, the government is allowing useless data to be published and broadcast far and wide but it won't allow results from a broad-based test that could provide some insight into how much of the population has antibodies to the virus---which might end the lockdown drama.
Of note, a small sample was tested in Oregon by Ian Hilgart-Martiszus on his own:
Serum samples were collected April 2nd to April 4th, 2020 from 40 people in Oregon, then tested for SARS-CoV-2 Spike S1 IgG antibodies with an ELISA.
Participants represent a semi random sample of individuals who have not been diagnosed or tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Within the testing cohort of 40 people, many report a severe cold or flu since January 1, 2020. The sample pool is composed of men and women with an age range of 24 to 73 years old.It turned out 4 of the people in the sample tested positive for IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 Spike S1. One had a strong antibody load, three had weak loads.
More:
The study participant with strongest IgG signal was subject number 32 and [he] reported significant illness in December of 2019... Study member 35 [with a weak load] reported a significant flu like illness in January of 2020.In other words, it is very possible that in December and January, before the COVID-19 panic, people may have been infected with COVID-19 and just thought they had the flu. Could that explain why we have been going through a "strong flu season"?
Whatsmore, and this is a big extrapolation but there isn't any data coming from the government to make it easier, if the Oregon testing holds for the US general population, it would mean 10% of the population has already been infected, mostly with much milder versions of the virus.
That would be some 33 million people infected in the US. And if the deaths from COVID-19 come in at 30,000 that would mean the death rate is in line with the flu at 0.09% and this entire Fauci Lockdown has been a dishonest scam.
So why aren't the UCSF results really being released? Are we really to believe that blood transfusion recipients wouldn't be happy to know they might get antibodies to COVID-19 as part of their transfusion?
Why the coverup? Is it because the results are in line with the Oregon test?
Something smells in Fauci Land.
But this apparent cover-up won't last. The government may not want to do a proper sample test but more and more private sector tests will be launched, one is about to be launched by Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor of medicine at Stanford University.
Let's hope that Fauci doesn't have the muscle to coverup these tests. It would be a good time for President Trump to fire him.

I heard from a friend that is mostly reliable that Mayo Clinic is starting an antibody test. I didn’t search for any specifics.
ReplyDeleteThe entire corona virus debacle smells of a huge scam to get the population used to massive government intervention in every aspect of their lives. Unfortunately the vast majority of the population seem to be swallowing it whole without questions.
ReplyDeleteYou should be ashamed to call yourself an economist, Bob. You have no understanding of basic supply and demand, no understanding whatsoever of what testing entails, no understanding of current inventory levels, etc.
ReplyDeleteTake a look at your own ignorance first before attributing malice to others.
Bob, do you have Rand's ear, even a little bit? Can he weigh in? Can he be persuaded to reach out to Donald? I'm sure he has had some contact but it's needed now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteUsing these https://www.sfgate.com/coronavirus/article/Study-projects-coronavirus-deaths-state-by-state-15164242.php inflated death projections of 81,000, the US would have a C-19 death rate of 0.245%, about double the death rate for the ten year average of the flu at 0.134%.
ReplyDeleteIn all likelihood the C-19 death rate will be less than the ten year average of the flu. But even if it is about double the results of the Fauci Lockdown will be worse than the disease.
A huge point: The 2017-2018 flu death rate https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html was about double the ten year average. We didn’t shut down the world then and nobody thinks we should have.
We all need to celebrate the resurrection (of our lives) this Sunday.
"...a big extrapolation... could be the understatement of the year. Fauci is a Dr. Strangelove type character and has lost all credibility. RW needs to be careful not to lose his. There is no need for a conspiracy. We have enabled the creation of a political/bureaucracy whose members use force and coercion to protect themselves from the discipline of the free market. They are always incented to gain power for themselves and their special interest groups at the expense of everyone else. Fauci is no more knowledgeable about testing and its efficacy than the rest of the healthcare industry which appears shockingly ignorant. Whether he blocks one test or another is meaningless. More testing will be playing his game and only cause more confusion. We need to show how force and coercion (government or otherwise) only adds to the hysteria. Wealth creation is the most powerful enemy of disease and death. The shut-down is the opposite of wealth creation and can only leave us more vulnerable and impoverished. End the shut-down.
ReplyDelete10% infection rate is wholly consistent with infection rates onboard those petri dishes that are cruise ships.
ReplyDeleteWith the Diamond Princess, the Grand Princess and the Zaandam, we have a closed sample of more than 9000 individuals between crew and passengers that have been exposed directly to Covid19.
Yet we have less than 1000 infections and less than 10 fatalities.
I remind you that the age of cruise ship passengers is heavily skewed towards the 55+ and that conditions aboard present the perfect environment for the spread of a virus which, incidentally, happens regularly for gastrointestinal viruses.
