I somewhat suspect there may be a strategy Trump is employing with these comments and the comments he made on Megyn Kelly. I'm not trying to stereotype, but there is a segment of the black population that this type of rhetoric appeals to. Trump has so far attacked someone who is perceived as a spoiled good looking blonde white woman and basically just called a rich white woman ugly. He's "throwing shade" at them. And given that Trump has the best poll numbers with blacks than any other Republican candidate in history, his strategy might be working.
The Donald is an equal opportunity insulter who doesn't believe in symmetrical political fighting. But usually the other person has to start the insult contest.
