“I think I was a little too easy on Donald Trump last time,” He added. “That’s given in jest," he added.
Later in the interview, Rand unfavorably compared Trump to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who suspended his presidential bid Friday.
“You have a long-term governor from a large conservative state leaving the field, and meanwhile, the media continues to reinforce a celebrity that really doesn’t have qualifications for office and in fact would alarm me if he were in charge of our nuclear weapons,” Rand said.
“So, really, I think it’s a serious versus the unserious. And there is a danger that if we continue to laud so much attention on basically someone whose level of discourse is that of junior high, I think there’s a problem, there’s a great risk for the country.”
Trump fired back in a series of Tweets:
Lightweight Senator @RandPaul should focus on trying to get elected in Kentucky--- a great state which is embarrassed by him.

I truly understood the appeal of Ron Paul, but his son, @RandPaul, didn't get the right gene.

Too many people on stage for debate. @RandPaul at 11th, with 2% in @RealClearNews, shouldn't be allowed to participate.

I actually agree with Rand. Trump is childish.
ReplyDeleteThey are both right.
DeleteYeah, it sucks to see Americans impressed with Trump's juvenile insults.
DeleteIt's funny how unimpressed Americans were when Ron Paul spoke HIS mind.
Oh, and when Trump wanted to host / moderate a debate in 2012, Ron Paul was the first to turn him down. These two didn't like each other, so I doubt Trump understood Ron's appeal.
(I remember thinking, at the time, that a Trump-moderated debate would be just what all the other candidates would want, I would think. I was surprised the other candidates turned him down, after Ron did, when it would have been a great way to have a debate without Ron Paul.)
At this point how any libertarian could support a pro war candidate like Rand Paul is beyond me. If I were in the USA I would actually be willing to campaign against Rand, with my money, time, whatever it takes.
ReplyDeleteRand says Trump doesn't have the qualifications for office. And Rand does?? What are the qualifications to be President? Willingness to murder? They probably are both qualified.
ReplyDeleteDT's right.. He DID get the wrong gene!
