If you read the govt criteria for asylum, trump is right. Just because someone is an illegal alien or supposed refugee, does not mean that they meet the requirements for asylum. It's a very limited window.
ReplyDeleteBut also, Even legitimate cases of asylumn are rejected , such as Ernst Zundel who literally met the requirements (he was persecuted for his political opinions, which is specifically an approved basis for asylum on the uscis website) Trump admin. rejected his plea to return to the US from germany to live with his elderly wife in Tennessee when he was dying.
In the meantime, Orange Potatoman tweets he is going to order the closing of the border with Mexico next week if Mexico (the inanimate object, I guess...) doesn't do something to 'stop the flow of illegal immigrants'. He also said that closing the border to commerce might even be profitable for the U.S. At that point, you must see that the guy ***knows*** he is talking to idiots who can believe two contradictory things at the same time. If it were true that closing the border makes more economic sense for the U.S., then why not do it already, regardless of what the Mexican government decides to do? At the same time, why would you use closing the border as leverage if you don't believe in keeping it open? The Mexican government is not going to do anything because it doesn't have to.
