Anti-chain immigration is anti-family.We must have Border Security, get rid of Chain, Lottery, Catch & Release Sanctuary Cities - go to Merit based Immigration. Protect ICE and Law Enforcement and, of course, keep building, but much faster, THE WALL!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 30, 2018
Merit-based immigration is a fatal conceit:

I might be willing to entertain merit-based immigration on the condition that numerical restrictions be dropped.
ReplyDeleteThe problem, as always, is that "merit" is a subjective concept, so if we have the state determining who has "merit," we move the subjective assessment to a third party, as opposed to keeping it with the party who actually wants to associate personally or professionally with the immigrant.
DeleteDown with chain migration. Down with birthright citizenship. Down with anchor babies.
ReplyDeleteTrumpistas are afflicted by this strange hangup about 'chain migration' (a misleading term meant to convey an erroneous idea about who can be sponsored) and 'birthright citizenzhip', a term that owes its existence to English Common Law and even older traditions. Trumpistas thus do not waste a single second to showcase their disdain for not only individual liberty but for any moral principle unless it is supported by state violence and not by its merits.
DeleteRobert What? will never explain what exactly is wrong with sponsoring one's blood relatives or with birthright citizenship and instead will repeat the same tired platitudes against people who do him no harm.
