BREAKING Mass Stabbing of Refugees in Boise, Idaho

This is a developing story. Return to this post for updates.

UPDATE 1

UPDATE 2

From Boise public radio:

9 people have been hospitalized in Boise – including refugees – in what police say is the single most severe attack in the city’s history.

4 victims sustained life-threatening injuries, according to police. During a press conference, Boise Police Chief Bill Bones released no further information on the victims’ ages or nationalities Saturday night...

Police say a 30-year-old male suspect is in custody, but the motive for the attack isn’t immediately clear. Bones said the man came from out of state. It’s unclear how long he may have been in Idaho....
They say victims, who include members of the refugee community, were found both inside the apartment complex and in the parking lot.

UPDATE 3

Attacker Timmy Kinner

Via CBS:
A man who had been asked to leave an apartment complex in Boise returned the next day and stabbed children celebrating a 3-year-old girl's birthday, authorities said Sunday. Six children, ages four to 12, were injured in the attack, along with three adults who rushed to their defense. Boise Police Chief William Bones said the victims are alive but some are gravely injured.

A resident of the apartment complex where the stabbing took place had allowed 30-year-old Timmy Kinner to stay there a short time, but asked him to leave Friday because of his behavior, Bones said. Kinner returned Saturday, when the girl was having her party a few doors down from where he had stayed, according to police.

  1. The USA needs a federally enforced and managed universal background check system on knives and other sharp instruments. Plus more internal check points like your previous post reports. That could have stopped him or her or it, however they identify.

  2. I know this is a tragic story, but..."Billy Bones"??? Maybe his folks liked "Treasure Island" a LOT.

  3. Others already beat me to it, but I was going to suggest that universal background checks for knife purchasers, along with bans on "assault" knives would have prevented this tragedy. Oh, and for heaven's sake - felons are not permitted to own knives.

  4. We need better immigration control between states obviously.

  5. So the quicky take of the typical reader / listener is an "anti - refugee" outsider attacked these innocent people. In this case, it might have been just as germane to question whether any of them were left handed.

  6. Private neighborhoods with private streets and sidewalks with the ability to vet residents and visitors would probably have prevented this. Further, based upon the levels of crime and violence suffered by the poor and powerless, it would appear that they are in need of the private neighborhood option more than the affluent. But let's not tell anyone about this option. Let's make it our little secret!
