The Black Man Who Really Understood Abraham Lincoln

Thomas DiLorenzo writes:
Lerone Bennett, Jr., R.I.P.

Renowned Lincoln critic Lerone Bennett, Jr., a longtime editor of Ebony magazine, has passed away.  His outstanding book, Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincoln’s White Dream, was largely ignored by the Lincoln Cult.  It was sneered at by the likes of James McPherson who once psycho-babbled that Bennett “failed” to realize the supposed genius of reinterpretations of Lincoln’s behavior by people like James McPherson.  The book is worth reading just for how Bennett demolishes the deceitful and nonsensical blather of these self-described “Lincoln scholars.”  Rest in peace, Mr. Bennett.
Robert Wenzel note:

I urge all to view the C-span interview with Bennett about his book, Forced Glory, here.

  1. That was a great interview. Tom DiLorenzo speaks highly of his book too.
So true about Lincoln being a religion, just as the State is.
