Rand Paul Responds to Liz Cheney Saying He is Sympathizing With Terrorists

Rand Paul appeared Sunday on CNN's State of the Union with Jake Tapper. He is just great here on issue after issue. I particularly like the final comments on internet privacy and his important differentiation between government spying (collection of data) and private sector gathering of information via terms of use agreements.

  1. The problem with the gathering of information as I see it is that the Big Data firms also collect it on you unwillingly. You don't have to have an account with either facebook or google and to some extent Amazon for them to gather information on you, develop profiles of you and sell those data and profiles to whomever, all without your consent.

  2. He was good, until the end, when he intimated that a private company might have broken "the law" and that consumers need to be "protected," which I took to mean by the government. Consumers can look after themselves; we don't need to be forced to pay for some state goons to "protect" us (leaving aside the irony of a rights-violator being our protector).
