On "Black Panther" The Movie

The movie "Black Panther" is a smash hit. It was just released on Friday. It earned $201.8 million during the Fri-Sun weekend and $241.9m over the Fri-Mon holiday.

I am not a big fan of comic book movies so I have no plans to see it.

That said, here is the trailer:

And here is the full take on the movie via Ben Shapiro, who is definitely into comic book movies, and is generally pretty could when he is not calling for war.

  1. Ha ha...the way he describes the meteorite-metal, vibranium [around 5:50]...the greatest substance...it has every benefit...curing wounds, giving you visions of your forefathers, and can EVEN turn your third-world nation into a wealthy, fully-liberal, western nation---PROVIDED there are no white people around. LOL. Talk about “movie magic!”

  2. The next fantasy flick is called Captain Torres. In this simple story, a once great country is invaded by 65 million non-libertarians and the result appears to be socialism and perpetual division. Yet in an unexpected twist a libertarian paradise is created thanks to the Captain sprinkling on each invader magic dirt.

    1. But wouldn’t it be more of a unexpected twist if a libertarian paradise were achieved through state central planning of the composition of the population?

  3. This is the sort of whining we heard from the left when The Passion Of The Christ was the #1 movie. Dorky conservative boy is sad that the hip black kids are getting all the attention. Cry harder Ben!

When I was a kid my Irish grandmother would remind us that we were descended from one of the High Kings of Ireland. Who cares if that just meant he had the most cows on a shithole island? Who cares if every Irishman can make the same claim? It is an ennobling story for a child to hear, and I think it serves a useful function.

Most of the black people I’ve talked politics with are instinctively very libertarian in their suspicion of the government. Many of them are very close to becoming libertarians, but they are crippled by economic confusion. I think libertarians are thrown off by the fact that so many statists like to trot out downtrodden black people as hostages for their “charity” shakedowns. The black people I’ve spoken too understand that the government is at the root of lots of their troubles, but if you're stuck in the trap anyway... free cheese is still free cheese.

Anyone interested in helping to turn black non-libertarians into black libertarians should stop raining on their parade and stop nitpicking the silly comic book movie. Have you ever felt like a leftist was engaging you in a useful and good-natured discussion when nitpicking the Atlas Shrugged movie? Whatever useful message Ben might have can’t be heard over the sound of his determination to spoil the fun. It’s like he’s walking down a beach kicking over kids’ sandcastles then trying to teach them a class in structural engineering, and then getting butthurt that they can’t appreciate his wisdom and insight. What a twerp.

    1. To be fair, no one who listens to Ben Shapiro was going to see this movie anyway.

    2. The Libertarian party should be doing massive outreach at Black Lives Matter rallies. Since black males account for about six percent of the population, but commit over a third of the crimes, they have an intrinsic understanding and the NAP and property rights.

I’d take them over the alt-right inbreds any day of the week.

Go ahead and virtue signal all you want. We all know you don't purposely move into an all black neighborhood so that your children will grow up in a safe environment.

  4. Murray Rothbard was an enthusiastic movie reviewer and clearly praised "blaxploitation" movies as old fashioned, fun 'popcorn' movies. Old Hollywood!

I think he would have liked Black Panther. There are clear cut good guys and bad guys, technology is celebrated etc.

Rothbard probably would have liked the criticism of western imperialism. He may even have liked how the lead bad guy was a former Special Forces hitman type turned global racial revolutionary.

Rothbard probably would have preferred the former King's isolationist policy - apart from the trade ban - but having the new Wakanda sponsoring private community based technical training centers abroad is not quite NATO!

  6. Some SJW's need to get a hold of this quote in the movie. Seems pretty 'da rasis' to me. Is he saying if Wakanda let in a bunch of meth head crackers that would not work out well?

    http://takimag.com/article/wakanda_blockbuster_is_this_steve_sailer/print#axzz57gzJkwrH

Then, his globalist ex-girlfriend argues that Wakanda should use its high-tech riches to help the countless poor of Africa by opening its borders. But as an adviser to the king sagely points out:

“If we let in refugees, they will bring their problems with them and then Wakanda will be like anyplace else.”
