Sessions to End Policy That Allowed Legalized State Marijuana Use

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is going after legalized marijuana, reports the Associated Press.

Sessions is rescinding a policy that had let legalized marijuana flourish without federal intervention across the country.

That’s according to two people with direct knowledge of the decision. .

The move will leave it to U.S. attorneys where pot is legal to decide whether to aggressively enforce federal marijuana law. The move likely will add to confusion about whether it’s OK to grow, buy or use marijuana in states where it’s legal, since long-standing federal law prohibits it, sys AP.

The decision comes days after California began selling recreational marijuana.

Can't wait to hear Libertarians for Trump commentary on this move.

  1. I see a silver lining. Maybe some states will nullify and interpose against the Feds here ...

    1. We can only hope. But I agree.

    2. I highly doubt it...these laws were always about revenue generation- not the "principles of '98".

    3. Rick, I generally agree, but it had more to do with political power rather than revenue.

But I think we have seen over the years political power is not used for revenue increases but to justify further revenue expenditures, where the power converts to real dollars for cronies. If it was about increasing revenue, deficits would be lower. Spending is the key, as Dr. Paul, Rothbard, and even our sometime friend Milton Friedman explain.

    4. California is already using Nullification (and Interposition I think) in their "Sanctuary State" legislation of late...so hopefully their fever for States Rights stays triggered on this issue as well---and spreads to other states.
Republicans always talk the talk but fail to walk the walk. They talk "States Rights" but are hypocrites---as here---and also on the "conceal-carry gun-reciprocity" issue too, where they favor Federally forcing states to accept the gun policy of other states. And so many other areas too (if Roe v. Wade did not exist, you just know they'd be in favor of a nation-wide Federal law, criminalizing abortion).

Sure, but Trump is going to build da wall which will keep the [brown people] invaders away and thus stave off this demographic displacement [of white people]. That's what Trumpistas (and Pat Buchanan) are saying, at least.

  5. One could look at this as positive for liberty in the way RW advised a Hillary presidency would be. I hope Jeffy sends some jackboots to CO or CA to crack the skulls of some smokin' grannies. Libertarians could get a lot of mileage out of that object lesson in what gov't really is.

  6. Oh bring it on dude. I relish this fight. The sooner a local sherriff or a state trooper stands in front of a DEA agent and tells him to step off the better. That's the moment the left starts to wrap their heads around decentralization of power.

There is no stopping this train. They couldn't stop it when it was totally illegal everywhere, and they cant stop it now.

  7. No joke Donxon, Alaskans already hate federal power, the State of Alaska has to protect Alaskans from the feds by State Law. Alaska passed a law that made ANY weapon made in Alaska “legal”, and now legalized marijuana.
Jurisdiction over rivers,( the Yukon case and the BS the feds did to that old man and his wife) made main stream Alaskans hate you.
Bring it feds. You know you are gonna lose. And everything you do just makes people here Hate the State even more. Libs, conservatives, no matter what you do or which way you turn, you are goin to Piss some group off.
A Free Alaska is not all that far off. And you Feds know it. And I’ll keep promoting it, no matter what you POS at the DOJ threaten me with.
