Libertarian Tools in Congress

For the libertarian, it should be remembered that now that Ron Paul has retired from Congress, there are no consistent libertarians on the hill.

Certain congressmen can be counted on for specific issues but never all of the time. The libertarian should consider current congressmen occasional tools but they should always be treated with suspicion.

Case in point, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), who some consider as being strongly libertarian.

He just voted in favor of a bill that would be abhorrent to a real libertarian,  House Resolution 397, which calls for “solemnly reaffirming the commitment of the United States to the North Atlantic Treaty Organizations principle of collective defense as enumerated in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty”.

The resolution passed 423-4, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Rep. Jimmy Duncan (R-TN) voted against.

Massie observed in a statement emailed to The Cincinnati Enquirer:
The move to expand NATO in Eastern Europe is unwise and unaffordable,Yesterday's resolution was in direct conflict with President Trump's campaign assertion that NATO is obsolete.

  1. There never will be another Ron Paul. He is the greatest mind of any liberty loving conscience.
