OMB Director Turns Into Ivanka Trump

What a disgrace.

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney. we were told, was a solid conservative.

That he would bring tight budget management to the Trump administration and a conservative free market perspective.

Instead, he is now justifying Ivanka Trump social justice programs.

During a press briefing on Monday at the White House, Mulvaney went on a rambling twisted justification for government paid parental leave:
By the way, people ask, you say, Mulvaney, you're used to be a Freedom Caucus guy, how can you support paid parental leave?  It goes right to the heart of the matter on 3 percent growth.  We need men and women who are sitting home thinking you know what, I don't know if I can go back to work because we're getting ready to have a kid.  And what happens if I have to stay home?  We try and create the environment where people are more comfortable going back to work and staying at work knowing that if they do have a child, they’ll be able to spend time with that child under the paid parental leave program.

Trump’s  budget proposal will include creating and funding a program that will give six weeks of paid time off for mothers and fathers following the birth or adoption of a child.

Families of all income levels would be included in the current proposed plan, though benefits would be capped for high earners, White House officials told the Washington Post.

The plan would be paid through the country’s unemployment insurance system and managed by individual states. It’s expected to benefit about 1.3 million parents and would cost about $25 billion over 10 years.

Reports WaPo, Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who also acts as an assistant to the president and has been a chief advocate for the policy inside the White House, is expected to play a central role in discussions about how to construct it.
