It should be noted that the memo is part of a battle between different factions of the Deep State and not a libertarian issue.
This is a strange issue for Amash to go out on a limb on. It is certainly not going to cause Trump, if he survives, to look kindly on the Freedom Caucus.

UPDATE
More details.
Amash tells reporters that if Comey memo allegations are true, it's grounds for impeachment. Says he trusts Comey more than Trump.— Katie Bo Williams (@KatieBoWill) May 17, 2017
How can Amash consider Comey trustworthy? This is a catch-22: If Trump attempted to obstruct justice and Comey was aware of it then he is obligated by law to immediately report it to the Justice Department. So either Trump didn't obstruct justice, Comey is lying, or Comey himself broke the law.
ReplyDeleteArticle II, Section 2, clause 1, of the Constitution, under the Pardon Clause, says the President “shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” So how could Trump's mere suggestion to the FBI Director to lighten up on a retired general not be a proper exercise of his clear constitutional powers? The instrument has been stretched so far that it is already in shreds so now its actual explicit terms are ignored by right, left, and libertarian-lite alike.
