When it was revealed that Peter Thiel, at this late stage in the game, was donating $1.25 million to the Trump campaign, I viewed it as a shrewd, long shot move:
It is a shrewd move by the cagey billionaire. Trump doesn't have a lot of friends right now and his odds of winning are shrinking fast but in the event Trump does win, he will remember that Thiel stepped up to the plate for him in his darkest hour.
Given the balance in Thiel's checking account, the $1.25 million is nothing relative to the payoff if Trump somehow does pulloff an upset win.Amazon founder Jeff Bezos seems to view the move the same way.
During a wide-ranging interview at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco, Bezos said about the Thiel donation:
Peter Thiel is a contrarian. You have to remember that contrarians are usually wrong.-RW
On the rare occasions they are right, they usually win big.
