America's Forefathers Were Not Paternalistic

Richard Ebeling emails:

Dear Bob,

I have a new article on the news and commentary website, “EpicTimes,” on “America’s Forefathers Were Not Paternalistic.”

What is “Americanism”? It is a term often ridiculed or dismissed. But “America” historically represented hope and opportunity to millions escaping from political tyranny, religious persecution, and economic hardship around the world.

Americanism was the land of individual liberty and rights. The country of economic liberty and free markets. And a society in which government was a restrained servant rather than a demanding master over people.

But all these ideas, which captured the idea and ideal behind the Founding Fathers vision in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution have been undermined by a counter-revolution of collectivism that has been at work in America for over a century, now, the modern result of which are the panhandlers of political paternalism and a “strong man” and a “strong woman” offering to set all things right, if only governmental power is placed in their, respective, own hands.

“America,” the land of “second chances” for freedom and prosperity, for free enterprise and unbound entrepreneurship, for individual opportunity and responsibility, is what is being diminished before our eyes – if we do not do all that we can to restore the ideal and vision of our Founding Fathers.
