I can't recall off the top of my head any sitting President having so many harsh words for a candidate for office that might succeed him. (not that Trump hasn't been "giving it" to Obama)
There's probably further back in history, especially in the US gov't early days some of this type of banter, but I don't seem to recall much of this type of behavior the last 30 years or so for sitting President in regard to candidate's they aren't running against.(maybe someone will point out otherwise)
