Why Donald Trump Really Lost in Colorado

Donald Trump got shut out in the Republican delegate chase in Colorado on Saturday. Ted Cruz swept all 34 delegate slots at the Colorado GOP convention.

The key to the Cruz victory can be understood by close examination of a near bottom paragraph in the Politico reporting on the Cruz victory:
Most of the delegates elected were affiliated with Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, a conservative organization with a history of flexing its organizing muscle in Colorado politics.
I'm told that the Colorado gun owners just don't trust Trump on gun ownership because he has been all over the map on the issue. Cruz, on the other hand, regardless of his other positions is solid on the right to carry a gun, something that, of course, is very important to gun owners.

Also, of note, the executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is Dudley Brown, who I am told is close to Mike Rothfeld, the former Ron Paul Inc. operative who was unceremoniously cut by Rand Paul in the closing weeks of Rand's campaign as Rand was running out of cash.

There is some speculation that Rothfeld is doing some work for Cruz.

This, of course, does not mean that Trump delegate weren't scratched from the ballot, as reported. Just that Cruz played a slicker (more crooked?) game. Still, if Trump was more solid on guns, it would have been more difficult for Cruz to pull off his stunt.

  1. If Cruz is smart he'll attack Trump on gun rights

  2. Actually, you proved a point. The Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is a lobby group, and everyone knows Trump doesn't care about lobby groups. They know all other candidates listen to where the donations come from. I don't believe for a second that this happened just because Trump is wishy washy on guns. How many Republicans have been? How many times have Republicans had the house and the senate and still there is gun control all over the place. This is simply about establishmentarian politics.

    1. I agree with you 100%. I just have one question. Since when is replacing delegates who vote one way, with delegates who will vote the way you want them to ethical or legal?

  3. Agree, I'm pro Trump, and its way overdue for him to publish a serious 2nd amendment position paper and speech.
