How the Hell Did Trump Get 44% of Nevada's Latino Vote Yesterday?

CNN reports that Donald Trump won 44 percent of the votes from Nevada’s GOP Latinos, despite strong competition from two Latino candidates and despite him calling illegal Mexicans entering the country murderers and rapists.

“This is the wow number of the night,” said David Chalian, a CNN political expert. “It is just unbelievable,” he added.

What Trump has done here is tap into a bit of class distinction among Latinos living in the US. Nearly every ethnic group that has members that have been here for some time develop this informal class status ranking system.

Immigrants that have been in America for some time and have become acclimated to American ways, even more so, first generation and second generation American born children of immigrants, often see themselves status-wise as a notch above newly arriving immigrants who tend to display the mannerisms and style of the old country. And who almost always are of a lower economic class.

Back in my part of town, where I grew up, new arrivals from my ethnic group were known as DPs. We didn't hate them but we did see them as different

An acclimated immigrant can spot a mile away an immigrant from his own country who is newly arrived in the US just by the clothes he wears.

Add voting habits to this mix and you can understand the Latino vote for Trump. As Breitbart notes:
In general, Democratic candidates win the vote of immigrant naturalized citizens, and of their grown children. But the GOP can evenly split the votes of prosperous third-generation and later Latinos who view themselves as core Americans. Most of those established Latinos’ have long family histories in the United States, back to grandparents or further.
So the Latinos that are Republicans, in the first place, and go out of their way to vote in a caucus would tend to be most social status conscious about being successful Americans and would see themselves as different from wetbacks---and might be very happy to see the wetbacks tossed back over the Río Bravo del Norte,

This class distinction among ethnics occurs in almost all ethnic groups in America. The one reversal of the immigrant social status ranking rule, however, is when it comes to African women and African-American men.

Women in the US who are originally from Africa are, shall we say, not exactly enamored with African-American men.

  2. The reason is simple. Most immigrants to this country came here because they left a hell hole of violence and poverty. Especially the ones who now have roots here and can vote. They know where they came from and they don't want their community turning into a slum from mexico or central america.

I think there are far more latinos who will support trump than you might imagine based on MSM commentary. Vast increases in standard of living tends to make people want to protect that for their families, real or imagined.

So much for the "They can't assimilate into our culture!" canard.

─CNN reports that Donald Trump won 44 percent of the votes from Nevada's GOP Latinos,─

Actually, he ostensibly received 44% of the votes from GOP caucus-goers of Latin American descent, but that does not mean he received 44% of the Latino vote. Just how big was the number of GOP caucus-goers of Latin American descent?

─ [...] despite him calling illegal Mexicans entering the country murderers and rapists.─

I've been saying he implied as much for months.
