Black Named Interim Head at Mizzou

I'm sure his skin color had nothing to do with it.

The University of Missouri's governing board on Thursday appointed one of its first black law school graduates to be the university system's interim president, reports AP

"I have seen the system grow and excel over the years and I look with great optimism in the future," said Michael Middleton, 68,

MU Policy Now, a student group made up of graduate and professional students, had been pushing for Middleton's appointment.

"Given the recent turmoil, Deputy Chancellor Emeritus Middleton is a strong transitional figure," the group wrote in a letter of endorsement posted on its Facebook page and sent to curators. Several student organizations signed the recommendation letter, including the Legion of Black Collegians.

  1. Has he already publicly admitted to his male privilege, or is that something that only the whites have to do?

  2. Take a look at this article (on ESPN no less...) about the guy who went on the hunger strike: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14101906/line-how-hunger-striker-jonathan-butler-football-players-rocked-missouri

Was shocked to find this tidbit: "One person who knows Butler later wonders whether he's taking a page from the book "Rules for Radicals," which implores the reader to go after people and not institutions. "People," the book notes, "hurt faster than institutions.""
