OMG HuffPo Headline: Rand Paul, Longtime Foe Of Nation Building, Is Ready Now To Redraw The Middle East

Akbar Shahid Ahmed and Igor Bobic write at HuffPo:
"Nation-builder" probably isn't a term Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) would use to describe himself. The libertarian-leaning senator has built a reputation on his reluctance to intervene abroad, a point he emphasizes as he travels the country ahead of a likely White House bid in 2016.

But on Wednesday, two weeks after telling a crowd of conservatives that Republicans should give up the concept of nation building abroad, Paul called on the United States to ship arms to the Kurds with a promise to build them a nation: Kurdistan.

“Part of the problem is the Kurds aren’t getting enough arms,” Paul told Breitbart News. “The Kurds are the best fighters. The arms are going through Baghdad to get to the Kurds and they’re being siphoned off and they’re not getting what they need. I think any arms coming from us or coming from any European countries ought to go directly to the Kurds.”

He then endorsed redrawing the borders of Iraq and Syria to form a new country, exposing as he did the gaps in his understanding of the region.

"I would draw new lines for Kurdistan and I would promise them a country," Paul said.
This is just more evidence that Rand will say and do whatever it takes to move himself closer to the 8 year throne. There are no principles or consistency in his views, other than an attempt to please Jennifer Rubin. If he was consistent in his views on state separations, he would be arguing in favor of the separatists in  Ukraine,  instead of supporting the nationalists in Kiev, but Jennifer won't stand for that.

  1. Clearly the Kurds have been prevented from creating a nation with borders that correspond to where they dwell. They have been denied by others (Iraq, Turkey) the right of self-determination.

    2. You will notice I said nothing about arming the Kurds. But the right of self-determination is exactly our problem, as it is the problem of everyone under the thumb of the State.

    3. The right of Self determination of the kurds isn't our problem, Americans should start only to protect their own right of self determination of each persons individual family by rebuilding the traditional family structure and ending the self determination of the national society wreckers within. I recommend everyone read the book Mein Kampf.

  2. Excellent job exposing Rand for being a charlatan. It takes courage to attack your side's fatally flawed poster boy.
