Ben Carson Announces Presidential Exploratory Committee



He is no libertarian. In fact, he is pretty bad on almost every issue.

Carson on the issues

Against free speech (It should be kept in mind that he probably also doesn't recognize that free speech is a property rights issue):

Free speech is wonderful, but hate speech causes actual harm. (Jan 2012)

In favor of nanny state motorcycle laws (In other words, doesn't recognize that medical care should never be delivered by government)
Motorcyclists not wearing helmets consume medical resources. (Jan 2012)
Against legalized marijuna:
 Marijuana for medical use, but not for recreational use. (Jan 2014)
Position on education implies a role for government in education:
 School choice increases competitive nature of education. (Apr 2013)
An oil production technocrat
Petroleum independence would deprive terrorists of funding. (Jan 2012)
Implies government role on environmental issues:
Protecting environment logical for capitalists & socialists. (Jan 2012)
Holds US exceptionalism view and warmonger:
  • US is exceptional, with different values than rest of world. (May 2014)
  • Ethical world leadership stops bullies with brutal force.(Jan 2012)
  • Confront radical violent elements of all religions.(Jan 2012)
At CPAC:  “The mission is recognizing that we have radical Islamist terrorist groups,” he said. “The mission that I would give our military is destroy them first, and I wouldn’t tie their hands.
Government technocrat:
Lengthen House term to 6-10 years, with no re-election. (Jan 2012)
Healthcare super technocrat:
  •  Health savings account from birth; teach poor responsibility. (Feb 2013)
  • Two-tiered system ok as long as care is adequate. (Jan 2012)
  • Saudi Arabian solution: stiff penalties for medical fraud.(Jan 2012)
  • Regulate insurance companies as non-profit services.(Jan 2012)
  • Government responsibility for catastrophic coverage. (Jan 2012)
Jobs technocrat:

  •  College job: supervised highway cleanup crews. (Jan 2012)
  • Unions bad when they focus on power & not future generations.(Jan 2012)


On Israel:

  2. Carson really has no underlying operating principle, he's just like Rand in that regard and in fairness to both of them they are symptomatic of society in general:

    "Carson explained, “I was seeing all these people coming into the clinic and they were all people who were on government assistance and they were perfectly able-bodied people.”

    Carson said, “I was a rabid, left-wing Democrat. I’m running as a Republican because you have to run as something.”
