Rand Paul’s Claim — Twice in One Day — That He has a Biology Degree

Mainstream media has been on the attack against Rand aggressively, The word is out, but Rand does some really strange things that allows MSM to dig in and bite hard.

This morning WaPo reports this:
I have a biology degree, okay?”
–Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky), remarks at the Lincoln Labs “Reboot Congress” conference, Feb. 12, 2015
We first spotted a version of this quote in a Bloomberg column by David Weigel, and then checked the quotes with our colleague Jose DelReal, who had attended the conference.
This is a bit of an odd one, given that Paul does not have a college undergraduate degree.

WaPo then points out that although Rand has a medical degree, he does not have a biology degree.

Rand's spokesman first argued this was just " jocular bantering."

Then the spokesman went back to WaPo a second time and argued that a medical degree was  a biology degree:
It is common knowledge that the study of medicine is the study of human biology and a MD has a doctorate degree in one area of study of the science of biology.

  1. This is the problem with Rand. Ron Paul has been in politics a lot longer than his son and knew how to deal with media jackels. If they smell weakness, they'll turn you into a political carcass within minutes. Rand takes direction from his political enemies that don't want a Paul in the White House. The Republican party has set up Rand as well and he doesn't even know it. Why do you think they had him out attacking the Clintons? That's a two for the price of one deal: Rand can help the Republican party by bringing up embarressing stories about Hillary, which makes him a political target at the same time. That way the Clintons can throw their red meat at Rand while leaving a Jeb Bush type candidate untouched.

  2. Rand is being an idiot, but the media are far worse on this one. What's the big deal if he doesn't have an undergrad degree? If Duke Medical School will take excellent students without a bachelor's degree, then does he really need one?
