What Else Can U.S. Troops Possibly Want?

By Chris Rossini

MilitaryTimes performed a survey with 2,300 troops, and apparently "morale" is sinking.

This line from the survey jumped off the page: "today's service members say they feel underpaid, under-equipped, and under-appreciated."

WHAT?!!!!

Underpaid? Come on. I'm acquaintances with several troops. "Underpaid" is the last thing that comes to mind when you see their lifestyle.

Under-equipped? Anyone who has been on the Internet since 1994 has seen the charts. The U.S. military budget is the biggest gaping black-hole on the planet.

But this one really struck me: under-appreciated?

You can't escape military endearment in the United States. It's everywhere! Whether it be in the endless TV commercials, every single major sporting event, Baskin Robbins ice cream, Churches, Ketchup Bottles, special treatment from the TSA, military discounts, Veterans Day, Military Family Month, people clapping for troops at airports, and on, and on, and on...

At this point, I'd expect troops to be thinking: "Ok America...you guys can dial it down a notch. We get it."

Apparently not.

What else can these troops possibly want?

  1. If they really think they are underpaid (all government workers make that claim), wait til their term is up and they enter the private sector. My guess is that most seek to stay in government work, military or otherwise.
