The Unpredictable Future and Winning Liberty

Richard Ebeling emails:

Dear Bob,

I have a new article on the news and commentary website, "EpicTimes" on "The Unpredictable Future and Winning Liberty."

As we start a new year and look back on the trends of the recent past, it is easy to be pessimistic about the prospects for a a return to the political and economic path of individual liberty, free markets, and constrained limited government.

But we need to remember that trends to do change, and they have several times over the last couple of centuries, in spite of ideological and political currents that seemed "inescapable" and "inevitable," and therefore "irreversible."

Reviewing some of the historical changes in trends -- for good and bad -- demonstrates that despair should not be our guiding attitude looking to this new year and the future.

The mere fact that we cannot clearly anticipate, right now, how and when the political and economic trends toward larger and more intrusive government will be brought to an end is no reason for "giving up."

One thing is certain, unless that are people who understand and believe in the value and importance of individual liberty and free market capitalism, a change in currents trends will be difficult. With articulate and informed supporters of a society of freedom, the possibilities for winning liberty are wide open.
