The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps data on fatal injuries from 1999 to 2011 and one category is homicides by legal intervention. The term "legal intervention" covers any situation when a person dies at the hands of anyone authorized to use deadly force in the line of duty.
Over the span of more than a decade, 2,151 whites died by being shot by police compared to 1,130 blacks.Of course, there is a larger percentage of whites in the US, but that doesn't mean whites aren't getting killed by police (Though at a lower rate relative to population size). But the real problem is that police are killing blacks and whites.
The chant of protesters should not be "Black lives matter." It should "Cops should be disarmed."

The article made an interesting point about the high correlation between felony rates and poverty.
ReplyDeleteYep, the best solution for crime is a flourishing free market economy. It also the solution for 3rd world angst, etc.
DeleteIf the world traded goods instead of bullets & bombs we'd all be much wealthier and gov'ts much smaller and/or non existent.
Ryan, Have you seen this article by Ron Unz? Hispanic crime rates are low, despite poverty levels.
