Amazon.com is launching what it hopes will be a Chromecast and Roku killer - and it is doing it just ahead of the holiday shopping season. reports MarketWatch
The Fire TV Stick, which will be available for $19 to Prime subscribers during a two-day promotion starting on Monday, and $39 for everyone else, allows users to stream media such as movies and games through sources like Netflix and Amazon Prime. It competes with the Roku Streaming Stick and Google's Chromecast GOOGL, +0.33% which retail for $50 and $35, respectively.
Amazon, which is offering a free 30-day Prime trial with the purchase, began taking preorders this week. Shipments will begin on Nov. 19.
