INCREDIBLE: The Masses and The Lint Roller Compliance Experiment

A guy wearing a jogging suit did an experiment to show how easy it is to get the masses to comply with nonsensical orders, even to total strangers with no authority.

He holds a lint roller & stands outside a store demanding customers spread their arms & be linted down.

The must-see interaction between the guy and the public starts at 2:15 before it comes a very interesting PowerLight promotion.

There is more about the Power Light here:

  1. Unless you are raised by unusually liberated parents I would dare say this is the default mentality for most of us. We have to learn to be free.

  2. I'd like to think I'd at least ask the lint roller dude whether he worked for or was engaged by the establishment he was standing in front of and what his purpose was. If his answers were satisfactory I might let him do it since it seemed harmless. I hope I'd have the presence of mind to notice it was a lint roller, at which point I'd tell him to de-lint my whole jacket or sweater.

  3. This is similar to the Solomon Asch experiment:

I am amazed at how compliant people are. How people do not have enough confidence in their own common sense to simply question the herd or authority.
