The Most Absurd Headline Yet: "One in five coronavirus patients develop mental illness within 90 days"

Beyond the headline, here is what the story from The Hill really says:

A study published in The Lancet saw COVID-19 patients experience diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and other mental health illnesses more frequently than patients with other illnesses...

More severe psychotic disorders, which have potential to severely compromise everyday cognition, were less commonly seen.

Of course, there was no discussion of the mad hysteria created by mainstream media and the government-connected medical community scaring the hell out of those who have been infected and causing them anxiety and sleepless nights.

Further, there is no discussion of whether heavy mask-wearing by those infected, which results in large quantities of carbon dioxide inhaled, may have an impact.

  1. Except that the ARDS death stage is real and potentially deadly with permanent loss of bodily function for those with weak immune systems. But only for those with zinc and vitamin D deficiencies, a fact which is viciously and vigorous suppressed by Big Tech, Big Pharma, the media and government.

  2. From an October 27, 2020 study. This is the same analysis I first heard (and promoted) in April, the killer ARDS stage being the result of "the cytokine storm", the body's bizarre reaction to the virus when lacking sufficient building blocks for a strong immune system, like vitamin D and zinc. Nursing home residents and black people are notoriously vitamin D deficient:

Secondly, vitamin D is a steroid hormone involved in the modulation of the innate and acquired immune system and also in the production of antimicrobial peptides, such as cathelicidin and human β-defensin-2, as well as in the expression of genes involved in the intracellular destruction of pathogens (3-5). Thirdly, low serum 25OHD levels are frequently found in elderly individuals or in those with chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular diseases, which have also been reported as poor prognostic factors for COVID-19 (6-11). Finally, the downregulation of ACE2 by SARS-CoV-2 leads to a dysregulation of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS), which contributes to the “cytokine storm” that precedes the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) characteristic of the severe form of COVID-19. In this sense, vitamin D can inhibit proinflammatory cytokine production in human monocytes/macrophages (12), and chronic vitamin D deficiency may induce RAS activation, leading to the production of fibrotic factors and, therefore, lung damage.

  3. The Lancet is out with another howler. The once respected journal that has diminished its reputation during the C-19 hype is further diminishing itself by trying to convince the uncritical thinkers that C-19 is causing mental health illness. It’s not the disease that is causing anxiety and depression it is the corporate media hype of the dangers and their censorship of available treatments that cause so much mental distress.

They also fail to inform us of the adverse health effects caused by masking. How the anti-social distancing of C-19 patients causes greater distress to those that have been overly frightened by the corporate media hype and are forbidden contact with loved ones.

Of course there are more mental health issues. Did anyone need a study to know that?

  4. From my observation of the election and COVID hysteria, it's only libertarians who DON"T have mental-health issues.

  5. Bob - do yourself a favor and read about complications of a regular flu. They are as real, as prevalent, and just as deadly as COVID's. The hysteria is totally manufactured.

  6. Newsflash: "ONE IN FIVE AIRLINE TRAVELERS DEVELOP MENTAL ILLNESS BEFORE OR DURING FLIGHTS".
But no, I'm sure it can't be anxiety or other neuroses in relation to the TSA groping, exposure to x-rays, coerced doffing of clothing in front of strangers, and the like. Not at all (sigh).
