Bundy told CNN he wants to gather several hundred people in Idaho at a yet-to-be-announced location. He said he believes it's his constitutional right to assemble, even as state and local officials urge people to socially distance to avoid spreading the virus further.
"Our goal is to get enough people together and secure our rights... we are not trying to provoke, we want people to be able to worship," Bundy said in a phone interview.
In Columbus, Ohio, around 75 protesters gathered outside of the Ohio Statehouse on Thursday to criticize the government's restrictions during the coronavirus outbreak, reports WOSU radio.
Many wore Guy Fawkes masks over their faces. Their signs criticized the governor's stay-at-home order, closure of schools and shutdown of the economy: "My constitutional rights are essential," "Ohio dies when government lies," "Quarantine the sick not the Constitution," "A free people in a pandemic are still a free people."
In a letter posted on the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page Thursday afternoon, Sheriff Daryl Wheeler asks Idaho Gov. Brad Little to reconsider the statewide stay-home order that was issued March 25 to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
I admire these people and am glad to see this, but I wish that folks in this country weren't so quick to cite the Constitution as the source of the right to be free of coercion. Then you just get into battles about which court said what.

DeleteAre rights are derived from God, if you dont believe in God, thats OK, then the mere fact of being born, our Natural Rights, even if the Constitution never existed you still have these rights. Any person that deprives you of these rights are subject to Title 18, Sect 242, Deprivation of Rights under Color of Law, that that includes, police , judges, lawyers etc. with a penalty of fines, jail or sometimes death, read it and know it.

DeleteThis seems contradictory to me.
I hope I can find a church for my family to attend tomorrow, in the spirit of resistance and solidarity...my atheism notwithstanding. We used to go once in awhile to a Catholic church just for the sense of community (the wife's Catholic, and my three teens are agnostic or atheist), but I doubt the priest has the balls to stand up to the State in that way.
