Yale New Haven Hospital, where I work, has almost 300 people stricken with Covid-19, and the numbers keep rising — and yet we are not yet at capacity because of a marked decline in our usual types of patients. Our hospital is usually so full that patients wait in gurneys along the walls of the emergency department for a bed to become available on the general wards or even in the intensive care unit. We send people home from the hospital as soon as possible so we can free up beds for those who are waiting. But the pandemic has caused a previously unimaginable shift in the demand for hospital services.
Some of the excess capacity is indeed by design. We canceled elective procedures, though many of those patients never needed hospitalization. We are now providing care at home through telemedicine, but those services are for stable outpatients, not for those who are acutely ill....
What is striking is that many of the emergencies have disappeared. Heart attack and stroke teams, always poised to rush in and save lives, are mostly idle. This is not just at my hospital. My fellow cardiologists have shared with me that their cardiology consultations have shrunk, except those related to Covid-19...almost half of the respondents reported that they are seeing a 40 percent to 60 percent reduction in admissions for heart attacks; about 20 percent reported more than a 60 percent reduction.
So what is going on?
It appears that because of fearmongering by the evil Tony Fauci and mainstream media, many who are suffering heart attacks are staying at home with the onset of the symptoms for fear of catching the hyped-up COVID-19.
NPR reports, over the last two weeks, that New York City's fire officials said more than 2,192 city residents died in their homes, compared to 453 during the same time period last year.
But, hey, no problem for the fearmongers, they just want to count the deaths as COVID-19 deaths.

New York City officials will begin to count suspected COVID-19 deaths in addition to cases confirmed by a laboratory, following a WNYC/Gothamist report revealing a staggering increase in the number of people dying at home but not included in the official tally because they hadn't been tested for the novel coronavirus.
In a statement, Stephanie Buhle, a spokeswoman for the New York City's Health Department, confirmed the change in protocol.
"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) and the NYC Health Department are working together to include into their reports deaths that may be linked to COVID but not lab confirmed that occur at home," she said.-RW

ReplyDeleteObserve that even avoiding handshakes and hugs was not sufficient to avoid the spread of this viral disease in this context. We know at this point that this pathogen is spread via droplets (surface contact, airborne for a short distance) and aerosols (airborne, particularly problematic inside confined spaces).

The viral particles infect nose, mouth, eyes. That's why the recommendation is to avoid touching your face with dirty hands.
Since the viral particles can remain viable on hands for hours after contact with contaminated surfaces, do you really believe that Fauci is lying when he is recommending that people avoid handshakes to reduce the risk of infection? It's next to impossible for people to avoid touching their face; in contrast, it is fairly easy to avoid handshakes.
There's nothing wrong with Fauci's claim here. The fear you complain about is generated by your mind in order to trick you into making stupid decisions.
The media hysteria is being generated deliberately - newsweek is a shit publication, just like 99% of the media outlets. Fauci's comment was made in the context of what happens after the stay-at-home orders are lifted. Only an absolute moron would fail to realize that Fauci's comment is in the context of the next stage of the pandemic response.
“When you gradually come back, you don’t jump into it with both feet. You say what are the things you could still do and still approach normal. One of them is absolute compulsive hand washing. The other is you don’t ever shake anybody’s hands,” Fauci said.
