Coronavirus press conference with President Trump, Vice-President Pence and virus experts |
The president brought a number of experts to the conference. From my perspective, he did a serviceable job as a non-scientist explaining the present situation with regard to the virus. He then introduced Vice President Mike Pence who will head a COVID-19 task force. Pence was followed by experts to discuss the virus.
CNN pulled away from the press conference, while the experts were talking, to attack Trump.
The CNN panel included the health authoritarian Ezekiel Emanuel whom I have personally challenged in the past (SEE: VIDEO Robert Wenzel vs. Ezekiel Emanuel on Obamacare).
Emanuel was outright dishonest in his characterization of what the president said during the press conference.
He said that the president doesn't even know how much money he needs. He said the president said at first that he wanted $2.5 billion and then said he would take $8.5 billion. Thus, giving the dishonest impression that the president did not know how much he needed.
It was was a sleazy lie.
What the president said was that the administration felt what was needed to effectively battle the virus was $2.5 billion but that some Republicans felt $4 billion was needed and Senator Schumer said $8.5 billion was needed. Trump then stated again that the administration views was that $2.5 billion is enough but that if Congress wanted to give him more money he wouldn't turn it down.
There was no vacillation on Trump's part as claimed by Emanuel, one of the most dangerous men on earth.
Emanuel then went on to state that $2.5 billion (See he really knew how much Trump was asking for) was only $8.00 per person in the United States, as if the funds necessary to solve a crisis are somehow determined based on per capita cost. In other words, the man is also dishonest or an idiot about valuation and marginal utility.
Next up on the panel was John King, who blasted Trump for using Chinese data indicating the number of cases of COVID-19 have been falling in China over the last few days. Trump hedged his comment about the Chinese data by saying, "If the numbers can be believed" but then added that "One reliable source seems to confirm these numbers."
Despite the outrage dis[layed by King, Trump was right, the data seems to be in line with information from outside sources.
On Monday, in the EPJ Daily Alert, I reported:
I just got off a conference call held by Dr. Bruce Aylward, who is the Team Lead WHO/China Joint Mission on COVID-19 and is just back from China. Some of his background: Aylward is an epidemiologist by training, is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, and received his medical training in Canada, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health...
The efforts to stop transmission of the virus by the Chinese government locking down regions and quarantining the infected appears to have been successful...
The number of cases in China via data reported is dropping dramatically.
Over the last 24 hours, 24 out of 31 provinces have reported no new cases.
His team attempts to confirm the slowdown in cases reflected in the official data by observations throughout their visits. And he says their observations tend to confirm the data.
He said, for example, that doctors have told them that for the first time in the last few days, they have open beds. Also, there are no more lines at fever clinics.Trump was probably referring to Aylward or a similar source who was on the ground in Wuhan. In other words, King's attack was just an ill-informed get Trump attack.
I am no fan of Trump, but the lefty hate of Trump is something to see.
They are vicious liars and distortionists and will say anything to gain power or knock a perceived enemy out of power.
