British lawmakers on Friday voted 358-234 to back a plan to withdraw from the European Union.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Withdrawal Agreement Bill will take the country out of the 28-member bloc on Jan. 31.
But the devil will be in the details beyond exit itself. Exit is only the first step. Additionally, the bill calls for sweeping foreign and trade policy shifts by the end of 2020 as part of Brexit.
It is these policy shifts that will move Great Britain toward or away from more liberty. And the direction of those shifts is far from clear at this time.
