Shawn Langlois reports:
A new survey released by the D.C. non-profit Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation reflects that, if the younger generation gets out and votes in 2020, those running for office on the far left have reason to be hopeful.
‘The historical amnesia about the dangers of communism and socialism is on full display in this year’s report’ Marion Smith, executive director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
According to YouGov, which conducted the poll, capitalism, amid a widening divided between the haves and have-nots, has plunged in popularity from a year ago, with one out of every two millennials (age 23-38) supporting it.
Meanwhile, 36% of millennials polled say that they approve of communism, which is up significantly from 28% in 2018.
Once again, I feel compelled to point out that immediately after the election on November 10, 2016, I wrote:
Heading into the election, I felt that for strategic reasons Hillary Clinton was the best alternative for libertarians. Not because she is good on many issues, she is not, but because she would come with a ready-made opposition that would listen to libertarian arguments against her.It is as bad as I expected. The country is going in a very bad direction, especially when we consider the youth.
It would have been a great opportunity to reach out to Trump supporters and spread the libertarian message. That opportunity is now gone with the Trump victory. Trump supporters are rabid, they will likely follow him down almost any hell hole.
These people are not going to listen to our arguments for smaller government. Their man is in power.
There will be opposition to Trump but it will be coming from the Left, not the Trump right.
The Left is all about expanding the state. Thus, it will be very difficult to reach out to these people and present state shrinking anti-Trump ideas. They are a perfect target for the socialists...
The socialists are going to experience a boom in followers under Trump.
Thus, neither the left nor the right is going to be open to libertarian ideas at the present time.

A big part of this is due to the voices on the Right being purged from Social Media, so young people no longer can see dissenting voices on Facebook, YouTube, etc. In ten years will we have a "Cultural Revolution" in the US?
ReplyDeleteWhy are commies so much better at marketing than libertarians?
DeletePromised equality sounds much more appealing to the insecure than promised liberty.
DeleteAmericans have been primed for it since the welfare state began slithering into our lives first in the 30’s and then in the 60’s.
DeleteFreebees! Who will turn away freebees?
Government schooling gets its socialist/Nanny-state hooks in kids at the age of 4 or 5, and never lets go until they graduate college. By then, we have fully-manufactured socialists, in favor of big, paternalistic, central-planning government.
ReplyDeleteWe must abolish government schooling. Number one goal...
