Justin Amash Quits the Republican Party

Justin Amash
UPDATE BELOW Trump reacts: Total loser

Via a Washington Post op-ed, Justin Amash has announced he is leaving the Republican Party.

"Today, I am declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party," he wrote. "No matter your circumstance, I'm asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us….The two-party system has evolved into an existential threat to American principles and institutions."

"Modern politics is trapped in a partisan death spiral..." he wrote. But the true driver behind his leaving the party may be his own death spiral within the Republican Party.

Sticking to high-sounding rhetoric throughout his essay about the evils of party politics,  the five-term congressman did not mention that he was trailing in early polls showing his main Republican primary challenger with a 16 percentage point lead over him.

There is expectation that he will run as an independent for his district seat and make it a three-way race. There is also some speculation that he will seek the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party.

He would be quite the Libertarian candidate.

Amash came out against the Iran deal negotiated by President Obama.  On his Facebook page, Amash listed "secret side agreements" as the most important reason he was objecting to the deal.

Justin Raimondo blasted him for that.
In 2012, he refused to take higher taxes off the congressional negotiation table

Yes, quite the libertarian.

  1. "Most disloyal member of Congress". Because that's what orange-peel man and sexual predator expects from congresspeople: unwavering and abject obedience.

Funny, orange-peel man also came out against the Iran deal for far less convincing reasons but nary a word by star-struck pseudo-libertarians left their lips in condemnation, probably because they're all a bunch of hypocrites who cared more about balkanizing people by race than a consistent and principled defense of voluntarysm and capitalism.

Yes, Amash wasn't loyal. Not to the sexual predator-in-chief and his cadre of sycophants. Not to those who distill morbid pleasure from the human suffering inside those detention centers. Not to the "very fine people" marching with tikki torches in hand, with an eerie, empty stare. If "being loyal" means joining that crowd or even tolerating them, then Amash is doing the right thing by being disloyal.

    1. What evidence do you have that Trump is a sexual predator? You are merely the racist Torres who hates white people, but RW allows your racist drivel.

    2. Hello, The Lab Manager,

He raped a woman in a department store and gropped several women, the ones that have come out to accuse him. He even bragged aboit it. Where's there's a loy of smoke, there's plenty of fire.

And I don't hate white people, Lab Manager. I don't hate anyone. Hate is the recourse of those who feel emasculated, something you're probably very familiar with.

    3. 'Evidence'. Does that not translate to Spanish?

    4. Hello, Paul!

──'Evidence'. Does that not translate to Spanish?──

It translates perfectly. The concept seems not understood when spoken in Trumpish, though, maybe because of all the grunts, clicks and sniffs.

    5. @oldmexican Trump is correct that there were "very fine people" at that event. Believe it or not I met 3 of them at Latin Mass last Sunday. Try not to jump to conclusions & broad generalizations/ condemnations of people you know nothing about. That is a mortal sin called "rash judgment." Look it up.

    7. Hello, Humanum Genus!

I know no one who would feel no qualms about cavorting with white supremacists, even if only to defend a gawddamned statue. And there's no such mortal sin. The Lord doesn't like liars.
