After President Trump, the socialist congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has more Twitter power than anybody else in politics and news media--by far.
A freshman congresswoman who has held office for less than two weeks is dominating the Democratic conversation on Twitter, generating more interactions — retweets plus likes — than the five most prolific news organizations combined over the last 30 days, reports Axios.
And she has far more power on Twitter than the most prominent Democrats, including the congressional leaders and the likely 2020 presidential candidates.
Ben Thompson, founder of Stratechery, points out that neither AOC's "background nor her position as a first-time representative are ... noteworthy enough to be driving the national political conversation. And yet she is doing exactly that."
I identified her as a dangerous leftist weeks before her election victory, before she even showed up on the radar of mainstream media.
I wrote before she was elected:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appears to be a very, very skilled demagogue, making promise after promise to voters and no analysis of how the promises are going to be paid for. And for good measure, she promotes a broad-based hate of the rich.The more I see of her, the more I am convinced she is steeped in Leninist tactics and strategy and knows how to apply such in the modern day setting.

Her traction has a lot to do with the presidency of Donald Trump which has resulted in the right abandoning free market principles in support of Trump, leaving others searching for an anti-establishment, non-Trump candidate. This field has been left open for the socialists and for a skilled operator like AOC to take advantage.

When did the right support ever free market principles? The people that like AOC would never have supported a free-market candidate. These people aren't anti-state. The followers don't even understand the nature of what they support. If they did, they'd try cozying up to Donald Trump, who for all my praise does seem to harbor strong paternalistic instincts as part of his nature.

But she's a light weight being propped up by undue attention from a fawning press and counter-coverage from the Charlie Brown-like right wing media. Dollars to donuts Donald Trump has never mentioned her. He's a damn wizard.
AOC is just a booster, a fundraiser and vote-fetcher for better candidates. She will get a nice payday and a nice permanent seat in the legislature. Disgusting, but those are the breaks.
The best that we can hope for is the fame and faux-power goes to her head and Icarus-Cortez goes for real power.
