BREAKING: US Unveils Criminal Charges Against Huawei and Meng Wanzhou

Meng Wanzhou
This is what happens when you fail to heed the rules of the Empire. It doesn't matter where you are located in the world.

The Department of Justice has filed criminal charges against Huawei and its chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, accusing the Chinese company of corporate theft and violating sanctions against Iran.

Matthew Whitaker, the US acting attorney-general, announced the indictments today, which followed what he said was years of investigations.

Whitaker said the charges relate to two main alleged crimes. The first allegation is that it stole technology from T-Mobile, one of its American business partners. The second involves claims that it lied to US banks about its ownership of another company that allegedly broke American sanctions against Iran.

“This goes back ten years and goes all the way to the top of the company,” he said.

Meng is close to the ruling regime and was arrested at the request of the United States in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada on related charges. The US is currently seeking her extradition from Canada.

This is going to be a serious impediment to non-acrimonious relations with China.

I smell neocons behind this.

  1. A real knee-slapper would be if Trump, in order to better relations, were to tweet that he was going to give Meng a full pardon. Cue neocon meltdown!
