Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is reportedly set to announce he is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for party.
Yahoo News reports, citing two people with direct knowledge of his plans, that Sanders will make his announcement "imminently."
One of the sources told Yahoo News that Sanders was encouraged by multiple national polls showing him near the top of a crowded pack of possible Democratic candidates.
In particular, the source said Sanders was heartened to see numbers indicating he is one of the leading candidates among African American and Latino voters, two groups he was perceived as struggling with in 2016.
The source also alluded to a spate of recent polls that show Sanders as the most popular politician in the country.
Early polls of the race have consistently shown him to be one of the top candidates.
It should be noted that Sanders has refused to debate his former fellow high school classmate, the libertarian Walter Block.
