Bolton Promises No Troop Withdrawal From Syria Until ISIS Contained, Kurds’ Safety Guaranteed

John Bolton
Multiple updates below.

So much for that troop withdrawal.

President Trump’s national security adviser, the neocon warmonger John Bolton says that the United States would be "methodical" about withdrawing troops from Syria, promising that the pullout would not occur until the Islamic State was fully eradicated from the country and Turkey could guarantee the safety of Kurdish fighters, reports the Washington Post.

“There are objectives that we want to accomplish that condition the withdrawal,” Bolton said while speaking to reporters in Jerusalem during a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The timetable flows from the policy decisions that we need to implement.”

The Post continues:
Bolton’s comments come amid reports that Trump had agreed to extend his initial 30-day deadline for withdrawal to four months. When asked whether Bolton’s comments would affect that timeline, a senior administration official said that “there is no specific timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, and reports to the contrary are false.”
Bolton also said that “the defense of Israel and other friends in the region is absolutely assured.”

UPDATE

From The New York Times:
Trump has already assured military officers they could have the roughly four months needed for an orderly withdrawal from Syria after first saying 30 days. Now, Bolton indicates it will be much longer, possibly years.
UPDATE 2:

LindseyGraham on "Face the Nation":
The president is slowing down and he is re-evaluating his policies [for Syria]. The reality set in that you gotta plan this out.

  1. Hmmm... Who is in charge: Trump or Bolton?

    1. The deep state is still in charge. It will be interesting to see what happens when the US dollar goes to its real value. Perhaps the deep state will not be able to beat up on other nations and will start to beat up on its own citizens. Weeeeee!

    2. Government is a progressive disease; it only ever gets worse. Donald Trump, like Ronald Reagan, may gain popularity by promoting a bit less government here or there, but no serious change will be made in the overall trendline, which is more and more and more government. So long as there is an I.R.S. and a Federal Reserve, and media licensing and government education, there is no serious chance of reversing the trend toward totalitarian mass suicide. Duck and cover.
