Rand Paul Warns of 'Assassination' Peril after Kavanaugh Confirmation

Senator Rand Paul seems to understand that the United States is on edge.

"I fear that there's going to be an assassination," Rand told a Kentucky radio show. "I really worry that somebody is going to be killed, and that those who are ratcheting up the conversation ... they have to realize they bear some responsibility if this elevates to violence."

Rand 's wife, Kelley, recently revealed in a Breitbart News interview  that she sleeps with a "loaded gun by my bed," has updated her home's security system and has "deadbolts all around my house."

Kelley also wrote an op-ed published by CNN in which she called on Sen. Cory Booker to tone down his rhetoric; in June, Booker suggested his supporters “get up in the face of congresspeople.”

Rand backed up his wife during the radio show "When people like Cory Booker say get up in their face ... What he doesn't realize is that for every 1,000 persons who want to get up in your face, one of them is going to be unstable enough to commit violence," Rand said.

And Rand is, of course, correct. But the aggressive energy is on both sides.

President Trump has triggered the extreme and dangerous left, and in ricochet form, this has triggered extremists on the right. Both sides are mad.

But what I fear beyond an assassination and other potential violence, as if that weren't bad enough, is the government response which will certainly be a further crackdown on liberties.

As I highlighted in my post, It's Too Bad Trump is Such an Intellectual Lightweight:
[Trump has]  triggered the nation. It has become more radicalized. The useful idiots of the CMPM are ready for battle. Those who see Trump as Superman are ready to battle with him against them...

This is perhaps easier to understand when contemplating the CMPM crowd but it applies as much to the Trump crowd. They will follow Trump anywhere, and remember he has no foundational libertarian principles. He does have a simple appreciation for the military and government police and  has the thought process of a simple central planner. A man who can get crowds to follow him, loves the military and has a simple central planning mind is always dangerous....

If the nutjobs on either side get control and go rabid, either now or after the election, the liberty loss is going to be ugly and swift.
Rand fears the assassination, my fear is more focused on the liberty crackdown after an assassination and other violence.

Just to calm the nation down, the best thing for the 2020 presidential election may be a victory for a centrist Democrat who does not appear a threat to the masses.

I'm thinking of someone like former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. I doubt there are many policy positions that I agree with him on but a nation in rage that is fueled by two sides that have no appreciation for liberty is a very dangerous thing.

Trump will crackdown on liberty if violence gets bad. His simple-minded view of the world provides him with no other potential options. And on the left, an Elizabeth Warren presidential victory or a Kamala Harris victory would be a crackdown on liberty from the opposite direction.

Yes, what the nation may need is some Starbucks led grande chill.

  1. RW, all the violence and violent rhetoric are coming from the Left, not both sides as you say. The Left have been hollowing out our institutions for decades with nary a protest from conservatives or libertarians. Now that there has been some small pushback from the Right, people are going nuts. "How dare they don't just rollover with their paws in the air like they have always done."

I still remember how it hit me when I read Mises 1919 Book Nation State and Economy that the only thing a democracy does is making a change in power in a peaceful way. Obviously that doesn't mean a democracy can't decay into chaos still, which is my worst fear for the US right now.

So do you think in order to to get to the PPS we sometimes need to take a step back (rather having a democratic centrist as president than a, say Ron Paul) before we risk total chaos because of violent braindead idiots to restore the social fabric and calm them down before it is possible to push for the PPS again?

  3. A continued Trump administrstion will further “trigger” the left and a Schultz administration will embolden them. We are headed down a long dark road. I do not expect a classical liberal republic, anarcho capitalist developments, nor a PPS to blossom in North America in the lifetimes of anyone who posts on this site. In fact, I fear something more like a Marxist police state followed by Balkanization and all the horrors that follow are in order. This empire is in terminal decline; let us just hope that her thousands of nuclear warheads and limitless chemical arsenal do not erase life on Earth.

    1. I sympathize...but forecasting the future of a whole society, whether for Armageddon or Heaven on Earth has not proven useful. Rather focus on the local. Family and friends, career and things you can control and on which you can take action. There was life to be lived even after the fall of the Roman Empire, even after the Plague wiped out 1/3rd to 1/2 of Europe's population. On an individual level only action can minimize social risk and keep you out of harms way.
