Soros-Backed Lefty Wins Major Upset in Florida Democratic Governorship Primary

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a progressive aligned with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), pulled off a stunning win in Florida's Democratic gubernatorial primary on Tuesday, edging out former Rep. Gwen Graham (D-Fla.), reports The Hill.

Gillum won the primary with 34 percent of the vote, the Associated Press projected with 87 percent of precincts reporting. Graham, the daughter of former Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.), won 32 percent of the vote.

He received financial backing from Democratic mega-donors Tom Steyer and George Soros and endorsements from  Alec Baldwin and Jane Fonda.

Sanders campaigned alongside Gillum in Tampa and Orlando.

On the campaign trail, Gillum hailed the Bernie favorite's“Medicare for All” and a $15-per-hour minimum wage.

Gillum will face off against Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) in the gubernatorial election in November, pitting a progressive against a hardline conservative backed by President Trump.

  1. I doubt many of those voting for Gillum understand this, but even if he manages to win, he'll have a really hard time pushing this agenda through the Legislature. The current governor here had the same party controlling the Legislature and even he could only get a 1/3 of his priorities passed. In the end, gridlock will ensue.

    1. I hope you are right. About gridlock, I mean. When government is evil, gridlock is good. Ergo, gridlock is always good.

  2. One more point - I can't help but think how suicidal the Democrats in this state must be. They haven't won a governor's election in 20 years. If they had a chance, this was the year. I highly doubt that most people here are going to vote for a black man who says we need more welfare programs.
