Ocasio-Cortez Fires Back After Republican Congressman Calls Her Views "Socialism Wrapped in Ignorance"

Florida Congressman Ron DeSantis dismissed socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as “this girl” over the weekend.

“You look at this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is, I mean, she’s in a totally different universe,”  DeSantis said on at a campaign stop on Saturday that was caught on video and posted to YouTube.

“It’s basically socialism wrapped in ignorance,” he continued.

Ocasio-Cortez responded in a tweet:
Rep DeSantis, it seems you‘re confused as to ‘whatever I am.’ I am a Puerto Rican woman. It‘s strange you don’t know what that is, given that ~75,000 Puerto Ricans have relocated to Florida in the 10 mos since MarĂa. But I’m sure these new FL voters appreciate your comments!
DeSantis, a Trump supporter, is running for governor in Florida.

What  DeSantis doesn't get is that when it comes to the millennials, they will take the socialist over Trump any day.

  1. "Socialism wrapped in ignorance"? Is there a flavor of socialism that ISN'T wrapped in ignorance?

  2. Politics is certainly a target-rich environment for those who enjoy pointing out ignorance.

Anyway, with Trump, I think we’ve a dynamic where he’s been buoyed by the attacks on him. As bad as he is, his critics have often presented themselves even worse. He has “the right enemies.” I worry that a similar dynamic could be at play with O-J.

  3. --- DeSantis, a Trump supporter[...] ---

That explains his eloquence. Or lack thereof.

--- What DeSantis doesn't get is that when it comes to the millennials, they will take the socialist over Trump any day. ---

It's also quite the nerve from this person to say someone else's political philosophy is socialism wrapped in ignorance while supporting a guy who promotes economic views that purport to shape the economy towards a personally-desired outcome, through numerous attacks on people's peaceful commercial, trading and hiring activities, through picking winners and losers, through threatening citizens with imposing a police state. That's some chutzpah he's showing.

    2. Umm, wouldn’t state-managed migration better fit that criteria?

You mean being against state intervention is "shaping the economy"?

HA HA HA HA HA HA! Ah, these Trumpistas! They're irony-impaired.

Since when are egalitarians such as yourself against state intervention? Talk about irony-impaired...

  4. Look how quickly she played the race card. Nobody brought up race but her. This is how socialists think, you are a member of a group and that is it. You are not an individual, so only if they consider your group valuable, are you valuable. Also, any insult to them is not personal but to their entire group (females, Puerto Ricans, etc.) This is racism wrapped in a "justuce" dust-jacket.

You mean Puerto Rican is a 'race'????

── This is how socialists think, you are a member of a group and that is it. ──

There's no question her thinking is on those terms. But she's responding to the dismissive manner in which DeSantis referred to her. Her reply, "I am a Puerto Rican woman", is a clarification, not race-baiting [again, I seriously question your insinuation that 'Puerto Rican' is a 'race']

    2. Good thing also those Hispanics or whatever are 'natural libertarians'.

    3. If you think she isn't playing the race card, you're delusional. Many Puerto Ricans consider that their race. Just like Cubans dont call themselves Hispanic or Mestizo, but Cuban.

Referring to someone in a dismissive manner has nothing to do with their race or nationality. If you bring up your race or nationality every time someone is mean to you, that is the epitome of playing the race card.

    4. And by the way, her comment and political positions reflect her belief in intersectional feminism. Intersectional feminists are people who play the race and gender card at the same time and try to out-do each others race card with an even more marginalized one. Do you live under a rock?
