Agreed. I'm sure Shapiro believes the GOP is not "leftist," but since when has the GOP ever done anything to reduce the size of the state? They just favor different cronies.
I have a different theory than Ben why most people of the Jewish faith in the US are leftists. In the Jewish culture, education, and especially university education is a very prominent belief system. Education is seen as the way to better one's self and as a stepping stone to further contribution to the society in which we live.
Because colleges and universities are huge radical left influences, and such a large proportion of the population of US Jews attend such higher education systems, I feel that this coupled with the large percentage of secular Jews creates an environment ripe for radical left viewpoints.
Correlation does not equal causation, however, the secular nature of most Jews means that a foundation of conservatism you would typically find in religious teachings isn't present, and 18 year olds are particularly susceptible to the rebellious influences of leftist politics at exactly the right time young adults are attempting to become independent of their parents.
They're genetically hardwired to destroy their host society.
