“Robert Jeffress says ‘you can’t be saved by being a Jew,’ and ‘Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.’ He’s said the same about Islam,” Romney wrote on Twitter Sunday evening. “Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.”
According to the New York Post, Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas and a member of President Trump’s evangelical advisory board, has also called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a “cult” and said Islam is “based on a false book” and “if you sincerely follow the tenets of Islam, then you will end up in hell when you die.”
During a 2010 segment on his radio show Pathway to Victory, Jeffress had this to say about the Catholic religion:
Much of what you see in the Catholic Church today doesn’t come from God’s word; it comes from that cult-like, pagan religion. Now you say, ‘Pastor, how can you say such a thing? That is such an indictment of the Catholic Church. After all, the Catholic Church talks about God and the Bible and Jesus and the blood of Christ and salvation.’-Robert Wenzel
"Isn’t that the genius of Satan? If you want to counterfeit a dollar bill, you don’t do it with purple paper and red ink. You’re not going to fool anybody with that. But if you want to counterfeit money, what you do is make it look closely related to the real thing as possible.
"And that’s what Satan does with counterfeit religion. He uses, he steals, he appropriates all of the symbols of true biblical Christianity, and he changes it just enough in order to cause people to miss eternal life.

Apparently, Romney is bigoted toward those who hold to the views of Jeffress.

As far as you or I can know, without asking people personally, is that the only religious bigot who holds Jeffress' views on everyone else who is not an Evangelical, is Jeffress himself.
Is Romney saying that his faith doesn't make truth claims? I don't understand.

ReplyDeleteI am wondering what god this pastor is asking to bless the embassy? He surely won’t be asking the God of Christianity, and if he does, God certainly won’t hear his prayer, because God won’t bless the embassy of a State, certainly not of a murderous empire.

ReplyDeleteNow I know why Jeffress hates immigrants so much he won't even consider granting any sanctuary in his own church.
Oh, he said as much during a debate on Fox News' "Fox & Friends", a year and a half ago, with another Evangelical pastor whose church DOES grant sanctuary and a place to stay to immigrants who are escaping the tyranny of the State. For Jeffress, the answer to the call of Herod to deliver the children to the State is to say "Render Unto Caesar!" and acquiesce. No, really, that's what he said. Not the Herod part but the "Render Unto Caesar" thing, in a too casual misrepresentation of the point that Jesus was really making. The guy is an out and out gawd-damned Statist.
