Billionaire Tim Draper once advanced a proposal to split Californua into six states.
The plan fell to pieces, not California. But he is back.
Draper now has a plan to divide California into three states, a northern state with San Francisco as its capital, a smaller but very populated state centered around Los Angeles, and a southern state that encompasses San Diego and wraps around Los Angeles to include the agricultural area of the Central Valley.
Draper’s proposal would keep the three new states in the U.S., unlike several “Calexit” measures meant to push California toward full independence.
Draper says his proposal has received enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot. He says the initiative, which he calls the “CAL 3” has more than 600,000 signatures.
Meanwhile, a proposed California secession from the US measure has been cleared to begin gathering signatures needed to qualify for the ballot.
Of course, what we need is less government, not more government power centers. Three states versus one is likely to make at least some regions even more oppressive, if not all.
The focus should be on shrinking government, closing agencies and all. Under these split and secession plans, none of that might happen.

Splitting up CA would be an awesome idea. So which is it RW? I thought libertardians loved a break up where the government if there must be some of it that is more locally accountable to the people.
ReplyDeleteToo bad we can't repeal direct election of senators or have some one tell us what Constitutional Amendment was passed to limit representatives to 435 members.

ReplyDeleteRobert, why would you oppose more local government, which is more accountable, and, by virtue of the resources it controls, less powerful, than more distant government? How otherwise do you get to 7 billion household "governments" from where we are today?
It’s none of my business what Californians want to do, if only they didn’t make decisions for me, but I do hope they split up. It might encourage other states to do the same. They are already a commie state, who cares if they split into several commie states. Maybe some people would see that it’s socialism that’s the problem.

Democracy is mob rule. When the government covers a large area, like California, the mobs in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley subject the rest of us to massive, and ever increasing tyranny to their own benefit. Dividing the state gives us more options to avoid tyranny without one state controlling most of the Pacific Coast. We're trying to make smaller government. The only way to do that is to break it up and let the assholes in LA and San Francisco area choke on their own socialism without subsidization from the rest of us.
