Say It Ain't So, Rand

Rand is going to support the nomination of interventionist war hawk Mike Pompeo to be the next Secretary of State.

Mike Pompeo quotes:
Legal and bureaucratic impediments to surveillance should be removed.
----
Edward Snowden should be brought back from Russia and given due process. And I think the proper outcome would be that he would be given a death sentence.
---
We have to get rid of ISIS, have to get rid of ISIS. We have no choice.

  1. From 5 days ago:

“I will say this about Rand Paul: He’s never let me down,” Trump said. “Rand Paul is a very special guy, as far as I’m concerned. He’s never let me down. And I don’t think he’ll let us down again. So let’s see what happens.”

He noted Paul ultimately voted for a Senate health care bill “and he did us a big favor. It was somebody else that voted against it that hurt us. So I have a lot of confidence in Rand, but I also have a great deal of confidence in Mike Pompeo."

  2. I'm speechless.

What does Rand expect to gain through this? Is there any reason to believe the promises of Donald Trump or Mike Pompeo?

The only way I could ever excuse a move like this is if we see an immediate, drastic change in foreign policy under Pompeo towards disengagement and a full withdrawal of troops from the middle east.

It doesn't matter if a hawk acknowledges the folly of past wars if they don't learn any lessons from them. These hawks have the next three regime-change wars lined up.

  3. Well... He caved. One may think that the Stable Genius promised Rand something Rand liked or simply that Rand no longer coukd discern a political advantage in resisting the president's choice, for the current makeup of Trump's voters are anything but principled libertarians or even constitutionalists but rather the same type of envy-filled mediocrities that would find a cozy home in the victimhood-centered left if the left stopped calling them 'idiots'.

  4. This is the same Senator that voted to confirm US AG Jeff Sessions, whose policies RE civil forfeiture, the drug war, etc. are diametrically opposed to his. Yet he voted Party anyway. And you're surprised by this latest development?

  5. I'm not really all that surprised by this. Rand and the other senators and congressmen on the hill either don't know or don't care about the principles of liberty and freedom.

  6. Good strategy right here. Don't pick fights that don't matter and you can't win.
