Poll: Five States Flip From Conservative-Leaning to Liberal-Leaning

Thanks, Trump.

The number of conservative-leaning states dropped to 39 in 2017, according to a Gallup survey out today, five fewer than in 2016.

According to the survey, Rhode Island, California, Oregon, Maryland and Washington joined the ranks of liberal-leaning states last year.

This is why Trump is bad for libertarianism. Most think that the alternative to Trump is to become a lefty.

Trump is a total disaster.

  1. Are these the same polls that had Hillary winning? Asking for a friend.

  2. Oh yeah, you are absolutely correct, they have all turned into bastions of Trump support. And they are all going to vote Republican in the mid-terms.

  3. California turned "liberal leaning" just last year!? Who wrote this report? The three monkeys that sit dumb, deaf and blind?

  4. "This is why Trump is bad for libertarianism. Most think that the alternative to Trump is to become a lefty."

If it were the opposite, namely, that most thought that the alternative to Trump was to become a righty, would that be any better for liberty? I don't recall W being a torch-bearer for liberty. The "right" these days, with its support for foreign interventions, the national security state, the war on drugs, etc., is just awful. As long as people think that their only alternative is a different flavor of statism, liberty is under threat.

  5. "Rhode Island, California, Oregon, Maryland and Washington".

I may have been asleep for the last 25 years or so, but I don't recall any of these states having been "conservative" or "conservative-leaning" for a very long time.

  6. This is a list of long ago flipped states. A trend may be in the works, but this data doesn't support the projection.
