Jones is the first Democrat elected as a US Senator in the state in 25 years.
The big individual winner is the former NBA superstar Charles Barkley. He campaigned heavily in Alabama and from my computer screen, it appears that he was the key driver behind a strong turnout by black voters.
Expect the Democrats should use him across the country throughout 2018 to energize the black vote in the mid-terms.
And he was just a couple of people away from Jones when Jones delivered his victory speech. He sure looked like he wanted to be the one delivering a victory speech.
I expect that at some point in the future Barkley will announce he is running for some public office. His views are unclear, I have heard him make some sound points in the past but on Tuesday he sounded like quite the lefty. And it should never be forgotten that he claimed that in his autobiography, I May Be Wrong but I Doubt It, he was misquoted,
The Democratic party was also a big winner. The victory will energize the base into thinking that more victories are ahead. An energized base with Barkley driving the black vote will be big going into the midterms. And then you have the kids, the millennials, all turning socialist. Not good for liberty.
The Republican establishment also got a boost. The scruffy out-of-work homeless-looking guy and President Trump were the big losers. They couldn't deliver in a heavily Republican state and will be labeled in 2018 as backing an alleged perv. Though the Democrats will most assuredly drop off the adjective "alleged." Everyone, including lots of Republicans, are going to distance themselves from the diet coke-chugging, cable news channel watching, street hustler in the White House.
And so, 2018 looks very good for Democrats and socialists of all stripes as we live the "Libertarians for Trump" dream of Trump in the White House
